Oxycodone

£14.97

Oxycodone is a potent semisynthetic opioid derived from thebaine, used primarily for the management of moderate to severe pain. It functions as an agonist at mu-, kappa-, and delta-type opioid receptors in the central and peripheral nervous systems, with the strongest affinity for mu-opioid receptors. This action inhibits pain signaling and alters the perception of pain in the brain.

Description

Oxycodone is metabolized in the liver primarily by CYP3A4 and CYP2D6 enzymes, producing active metabolites like oxymorphone. Its effects begin within 10–30 minutes (IR) or about 1 hour (ER), with a half-life of 3–5 hours.

Due to its euphoric and sedative effects, oxycodone has a high potential for abuse and dependence, leading to strict regulatory controls. Abuse-deterrent formulations have been developed to reduce misuse. Long-term use, especially with acetaminophen, can lead to liver damage or physical dependence.

Pregnant individuals should use oxycodone with caution, as it may cause neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome (NOWS). It is also excreted in breast milk and not recommended during breastfeeding.
